The Johnstons - My House.

Johnston lives alone in a ranch house that his dad built for him in the mid-aughts. He is occasionally visited by his siblings and a caretaker who uses the house next door, once occupied by Johnston’s now-deceased parents, as a base. When Beattie arrived, Johnston’s sister Marjory answered the door. A lost album has its benefits. It creates mystique and makes for future discovery. A 2017 tour was met with considerable fanfare.

The Johnstons, Album. The Johnstons/The Barley Corn. Other albums by The Johnstons. Both Sides Now. Colours of the Dawn. Give a Damn: The Folk Rock Years. The Johnstons alternated between strictly traditional albums and outings containing some contemporary material and pop-influenced arrangements on their late-1960s LPs. This single-disc reissue pairs their two traditional folk albums of the era, 1968's The Johnstons and 1969's The Barley Corn. The Barley Corn was similar to The Johnstons in its accomplished mix of a wide variety of Irish material, played and sung with passion, though not in that much of a groundbreaking manner. Certainly the highlight is "Ye Jacobites By Name," an anti-Jacobite song with an arresting minor-keyed melody and fine thick harmonies.

The Johnstons were a popular Irish group in the late 1960s and early 1970s, out of Slane, a small village north of Dublin, Ireland (more recently known for its annual outdoor concerts at Slane Castle). The band gained fame on both sides of the Atlantic. The final lineup was stabilized in 1967, with sisters Luci and Adrienne Johnston, plus Mick Moloney and Paul Brady.
