Probably not too smart to try and pull off a Jimi tribute anyhow. I had listened to the samples and knew it stunk but I had to prove it to myself by the torture of listening to it in full. Why did I bother you may ask? Well actually what had happened was I had just bought 2 other Hendrix tribute CD's specifically for the Arlen Roth takes on Wind Cries Mary and Villanova Junction. Arlen never lets me down, he did a sweet job on both of those tunes. Arlen is really a slick, smooth, even performer. It is difficult to rate this because though the music is good, the Hendrix vibe isn't really there most of the time. There's a bluegrass album called Pickin' On Hendrix that I thought captured the feel of Hendrix in a unique way, to me, more so than this, which is strange to even type. Sting and his simplistic version of the The Wind Cries Mary was one of the better spots because it wasn't over done.
