Stone Free: A Tribute to Jimi Hendrix is a 1993 album recorded by various artists in tribute to Jimi Hendrix. The artists were drawn from many genres of popular music. Contributors include his classic rock contemporaries Eric Clapton and Jeff Beck, blues man Buddy Guy, classical violinist Nigel Kennedy, alternative pop/rock bands Belly and Spin Doctors, hip hop artists P. M. Dawn, among others.

Pop/Rock Blues Easy Listening Jazz R&B. A confused tribute album more worthwhile as a curiosity than as an album, Stone Free gathers several artists with nothing in common other than the fact that they have recorded a Hendrix tune. Some of the results are surprisingly good (Belly's "Are You Experienced?," in particular), but most of it is cringe-inducing (Spin Doctors and Body Count) or predictably rote (Eric Clapton and the Pretenders).

Although the music IS enjoyable...this is a bad cutting / pressing. There is frequent background 'swish' (crackling) once per revolution which passes from one speaker to the other. This 'swish' sound reminds me of some poorly manufactured reggae records pressed in Jamaica in the 1970s! The record was also warped (like a bowl) from brand new (so that also reminds me of those crappy Jamaican pressings!) At least it the grooves are not significantly off-centered.The sound quality of this record WOULD be pretty good if not for the surface noise. It's pretty disappointing that THIS would pass quality control. Do these companies not test the pressings? (Like the FIRST one that comes off the press?)

Bad engraving. You ear dust constantly, in the backround scene, passing from one speaker to the other. Sad cause the rest sounds fine.
