ZOLLAR, James: Soaring w. .has been added to your Cart. The album seems to hit its stride in track 6 ("The Song Is You") and keeps the enthusiasm going until the end. That's not to imply that tracks 1-5 are not good, just that their high points all come from the solos by Christlieb, Martin, and Cunliffe rather than Zollar or the overall group sound. Surprisingly, the CD has no liner notes other than a list of the tunes. The date of the recording is not given.

James Zollar: Zollar System by Raul d'Gama Rose, published on August 17, 2010. That Zollar is a rare bird may be heard in any one of the memorable tracks on this album. On the snorting opener, "Chicago Preferred," a chart that rocks like a classic bebop song, Zollar soars like a great bird in flight. On Hoagy Carmichael and Ned Washington's gorgeous ballad, Zollar prays with miraculously husky sensuality.
