John Coltrane ‎– The Best Of John Coltrane - His Greatest Years, Vol. 2. Label: Impulse! ‎ – AS-9223-2. Format: 2 Vinyl, LP, Compilation, Reissue.

Complete your John Coltrane collection. This really works as an introduction and appreciation of Coltrane's (strange) Impulse recordings. Heard it as a kid in the early '70's and was totally astonished. Many overlooked gems . The Promise', from his "Live at Birdland" release and 'Chim Chim Cheree' (studio version) are included. Lets just say ALL these recordings are well worth exploring and seeking out especially in their full versions.

The Best of John Coltrane is a 1970 compilation album released by Atlantic Records collecting recordings made by jazz saxophonist John Coltrane. The album was released shortly after his death as a part of the "Atlantic Jazz Anthology"-a series of greatest hits compilations for Atlantic jazz artists-and features performances from his brief period recording for Atlantic with new liner notes by jazz journalist Nat Hentoff.

An album of previously unheard original compositions by the legendary jazz saxophonist has been discovered 55 years after its recording. Sonny Rollins, a peer of Coltrane’s and also regarded as one of the greatest jazz saxophonists of all time, described the discovery as like finding a new room in the Great Pyramid. Among the seven tracks are two completely unheard original compositions, called Untitled Original 11383 and Untitled Original 11386, both of which are played on soprano saxophone

What is the best John Coltrane album of all time? The saxophonist and composer is easily one of the jazz greats of the 1960s, with classic albums like A Love Supreme and Blue Train.

This previously unreleased 1963 session documents the saxophonist’s Classic Quartet during a pivotal phase. The Lost Album fills a gap in full-length studio recordings by the band (sans guests or subs) between the beloved LPs Coltrane, recorded in the spring and summer of ’62, and Crescent, tracked two years later. Less cohesive than either of those, this set has its own scrappy, off-the-cuff appeal. John Coltrane's 'Interstellar Space' at 50: Legacy of a Free-Jazz Masterpiece.
