Timothy Charles Buckley III (February 14, 1947 – June 29, 1975) was an American vocalist, songwriter, guitarist and producer. His music and style changed considerably through the years; he began his career based in folk music, but his subsequent albums experimented with jazz, psychedelia, funk, soul, the avant-garde and an evolving "voice as instrument" sound

Buckley was off the rails by this point, and this album documents the former rhapsode ground down to sadly strained and attenuated howling about cheap motel romps. The title track alone will disquiet the Buckley fan expecting the warmth of "Buzzin' Fly," the radiance of "Once I Was," or the energy of "I Never Asked to Be Your Mountain. Even from the opening lines, Buckley's voice is so faucalized that it is clear that whatever has strung him out is terminal.

Before Buckley had reached his 20th birthday, he'd released his debut album. The slightly fey but enormously promising effort highlighted his soaring melodies and romantic, opaque lyrics. And not just on record; he was equally uncompromising as a live act, as the posthumously issued Live at the Troubadour 1969 demonstrates, with its it jams and searing improv vocals. In 2017, two more archival live albums were compiled from Buckley's 1969 run at the Troubadour in Los Angeles, Greetings from West Hollywood and Venice Mating Call.
