Systems of Romance, released on 8 September 1978, is the third album by British new wave band Ultravox (an exclamation mark having been dropped from the moniker earlier in the year). It was the final recording for the group with original lead singer, lyricist and co-composer John Foxx, and their first album without guitarist Stevie Shears, who had left the band. Shears was replaced by Robin Simon, making his first and only appearance on an Ultravox album

Ultravox - Systems Of Romance (1978).

With 1978's Systems of Romance, Ultravox left punk behind and single-handedly blueprinted the entire new romantic movement to come - well, with a little help from co-producers Conny Planck and Dave Hutchins. Gone was the brittleness of Ha!-Ha!-Ha!, replaced by a rich lushness of sound that would define the forthcoming genre. Shifting from the political to the interpersonal, gone too was the overwhelming sense of looming Armageddon, replaced by more generalized (and mundane) feelings of alienation, "Dislocation," and unease.

Systems Of Romance ‎(Cass, Album). I guess you never can trust Americans and Russians when it comes to freedom of speech. This is the first Ultravox album that I ever heard and it grew upon me even more when I rediscovered them with the Rage In Eden album later on. It's different than the Ure era but a remarkable album that failed commercially back in 1978. In short - the music has been compromised as on most of recent years re-issues, "re-masters".
