Geno Washington & the Ram Jam Band were an England-based soul band, active from 1965 to 1968. The Ram Jam Band were formed around 1964 by Pete Gage and Geoff Pullum. Before taking on Geno Washington, whom Pete knew from performing the Bentwaters USAF Base, they had Jamaican Blue Beat singer by the name of Errol Dixon front the band as they embarked on the London club circuit

The other album was Hipster Flipsters Finger Poppin' Daddies. They had a number of moderate UK Singles Chart hits during 1966-1967 on the Pye label: "Water" (which reached n. 9), "Hi Hi Hazel" (n. 5), "Que Sera Sera" (n. 3) and "Michael (The Lover)" (n. 9). They managed to build up a strong following with the crowds and due to their touring and energetic performances. The band's name came from the Ram Jam Inn, an old coaching inn on the A1 (Great North Road) at Stretton, near Oakham, Rutland. Gage later formed Vinegar Joe with Elkie Brooks and Robert Palmer.

US soul acts rarely visited the UK and, having come over as a part of the US Air Force and stayed, Geno was our soul man. His level of touring and the high energy of his gigs was, and still is (as immortalized by Dexy's Midnight Runners in the 80's hit Geno) the stuff of legends. During his sets, the beat was continuous and the hits were incessant.
