Paul Hindemith (/ˈhɪndəmɪt/; 16 November 1895 – 28 December 1963) was a prolific German composer, violist, violinist, teacher and conductor. In the 1920s, he became a major advocate of the Neue Sachlichkeit (new objectivity) style of music. Notable compositions include his song cycle Das Marienleben (1923), Der Schwanendreher for viola and orchestra (1935), and opera Mathis der Maler (1938)

Chamber music is a form of classical music that is composed for a small group of nally a group that could fit in a palace chamber or a large room. Most broadly, it includes any art music that is performed by a small number of performers, with one performer to a part (in contrast to orchestral music, in which each string part is played by a number of performers). However, by convention, it usually does not include solo instrument performances.

This aspires to be a complete list of compositions by Béla Bartók. The catalogue numbering by András Szőllősy (S., László Somfai (B. and Denijs Dille (D. are provided, as well as Bartók's own opus numbers. Note that Bartók started three times anew with opus numbers, here indicated with "(list 1)", "(list 2)" and "(list 3)" respectively. The pieces from the third listing are by far best known; opus lists 1 and 2 are early works

Modern composers I enjoy orchestral works by: Penderecki, Ligeti, Hindemith, Janacek, Myaskovsky, Nielsen, Prokofiev, Britten, Bartok, Schnittke, Walton, RVW (most of this list came form the above poster (RVW I assume is ralph vaughan williams?) and Sibelius. Most chamber music fans prefer the romantic and classical era, even if your orchestral taste is very contemporary.
