Under the Table was easily one of the best albums of the 90s. It seems the only real complaint people have about it is that it was overplayed. I for one am tired of all the Dave-bashing. When I get the urge to listen to him now I always put on Under the Table and Dreaming first but skip most of the songs. I fast forward through until I get to Typical Situation, then skip to get to Jimi Thing and Warehouse. It was a fantastic album when it debuted and it still holds up today. I wish radio hadn’t killed most of his songs by relentlessly overplaying them
That also means that the Dave Matthews Band is capable of turning out pop songs, and as the hit single "What Would You Say" and "Ants Marching" illustrate, they have a flair for catchy hooks. Dave Matthews Band’s studio debut says almost all there is to say about the band in just over sixty minutes. From the pleasing opener Best of What’s Around, to instrumental this is an excellent record. More importantly, Under the Table and Dreaming gives us the indication that this band is capable of even greater things, which would be achieved in their next few albums.
