The Dennisons were formed in July 1961, at Liverpool Collegiate and took their name from a Liverpool street. They were inspired by another early Merseybeat band The Ravens, who later became Faron's Flamingos. The Dennisons advanced from learning the Ravens' chord patterns, to building a local reputation at the BICC club in Melling, Liverpool. Former drummer Clive Hornby recorded a solo album, This Is Your Life in 1997, which included musical contributions from fellow former Dennisons, Steve McLaren (1946–2007) and Ray Scragg (born Raymond Arthur Scragg, 4 August 1946, Walton, Liverpool, Lancashire died 7 February 2001)  . One of England's earliest Merseyside bands, the Dennisons failed to break through to an international audience. Although they released an impressive debut single featuring their original tune, "Be My Girl" b/w a song, "You Don't Know What Love Is," written for them by Ben E. King, their decision to turn down a chance to record John Lennon and Paul McCartney 's "All My Loving" turned out to be their downfall. Acquiring a solid following with their Saturday night performances at the BICC Club in Melling, the Dennisons signed a management contract with Kennedy Street Enterprises in early 1963. During the quarter of a century since their disbanding, the Dennisons have periodically reunited.
