Celebrate the New Dark Age is an EP by Polvo. It was recorded at Duck Kee Studios by Jerry Kee and released on Merge Records in 1994. The tracks "Fractured (Like Chandeliers)" and "Tragic Carpet Ride" were singled out as "two amazing guitar songs" and "Every Holy Shroud" was compared to Pavement.

One of the most popular and accomplished bands in the arty, noisy rock genre, Polvo revels in dissonant, intricately layered guitars that often employed alternate tunings; odd, off-kilter rhythms; an emphasis on dense sonic texture; and unorthodox song structures that, nonetheless, are often unconventionally melodic. Only for completionists (0%). Polvo is a math rock band formed in Chapel Hill, North Carolina in 1990 by Ash Bowie and Dave Brylawski, both of whom are the band's vocalists and guitarists. The scrappiness of this album, according to alternative-country singer Ryan Adams, is also what makes it appealing and I completely agree. Starting off with the 5 minute track "Fractured (Like Chandeliers)", you instantly hear that angular sound from dissonant guitars which seem just off tune from the rest of the music.

Celebrate the New Dark Age, the second EP from Polvo, is filled with the band's chaotic, twisted guitars and sarcastic, witty lyrics. Fractured (Like Chandliers)" and "Tragic Carpet Ride" are two amazing guitar songs. Fractured's" extensive whammy-bar use produces great hard-rocking, wobbling dissonance. Tragic Carpet Ride" is a straight, hard rock song that perfectly intertwines the distortion of both guitars

Talk about Polvo - Celebrate The New Dark Age

The sound quality on this pressing is pretty good. Little surface noise and arrived with a few superficial scratches but nothing that affects playback. My only gripe is that the songs don't have much of a stereo image so the songs feel a bit compressed when listening to them on headphones. Not enough to totally ruin the songs, and the original songs are recorded this way as well. I was curious to see if the remaster would open up the sound stage a bit, but it looks more like the remaster was intended to enhance the detail of each instrument while staying true to the original sound of the songs.Either way, a great EP and it was pressed well and the packaging is cool.
