This article aims to include information on the conductors and orchestras that have recorded the seven symphonies of the Finnish composer Jean Sibelius (1865–1957). A complete cycle includes the following compositions: Op. 39: Symphony No. 1 in E minor (1899, r. 1900). Op. 43: Symphony No. 2 in D major (1902). 52: Symphony No. 3 in C major (1907). 63: Symphony No. 4 in A minor (1911). 82: Symphony No. 5 in E-flat major (1915, r. 1916 and 1919). 104: Symphony No. 6 in D minor (1923).
Vladimir Ashkenazy and the Philharmonia Orchestra recorded Sibelius's symphonies and tone poem works in the 1970's and 1980's, and they are all excellent performances and highly regarded. I've had this particular disc for many years, and have enjoyed it greatly. A rich and strong, consistently enjoyable cycle". Penguin concludes that they are their top alternative recommendation, following the cycle from Colin Davis (Sir Colin Davis conducts Sibelius - a great bargain to be sure, 7 CD's with all of the symphonic works).

First Vladimir Ashkenazy takes to Sibelius' piano to perform an extract from Valse Triste, then it's over to the orchestra as they rehearse the Karelia Suite and finally Finnish pianist Erkki Korhonen plays us out with a romantic dedication to Sibelius' wife Aino. Esther Yoo 's debut album on Deutsche Grammophon offers compelling performances of Alexander Glazunov 's seldom performed Violin Concerto in A minor and Jean Sibelius ' popular Violin Concerto in D minor, an unusual pairing that works by way of contrasts. The support provided by Vladimir Ashkenazy and the Philharmonia Orchestra corresponds appropriately, so the tone that Yoo establishes for each concerto is reflected in the accompaniment, and played with flawless execution and great feeling.
