Kajanus Conducts Sibelius, Volume 1. октябрь 2012г. Robert KajanusOrchestra of the Royal Philharmonic Society. Symphony no. 1 in E minor, op. 39: I. Andante, ma non troppo - Allegro energico. 3. 39: II.

Jean Sibelius; Robert Kajanus. Type: Album + Compilation.

Robert Kajanus was the most prominent Finnish composer before Jean Sibelius He studied with Talsin and Niemann in Helsinki, with Hans Richter, Carl Reinecke and Salomon Jadassohn in Leipzig, and Johann Svendsen in Paris. In the 1880s he put the Helsinki Orchestra on a permanent footing.

He was dining in a small restaurant outside of Helsinki with Sibelius and a group of friends, when he revealed that he would have to leave soon to conduct a performance of the Helsinki Philharmonic. Sibelius protested his departure, arguing that an assistant could easily conduct in his absence.

Robert Kajanus and Jean Sibelius (1865-1957) were close friends. Although Kajanus was an established com-poser before his younger compatriot started to climb this particular ladder of creativity, it is Sibelius who is now recognised as one of the supreme compositional creators. Nevertheless Kajanus was an exemplar as part of Sibelius’s development: Kajanus wrote a symphonic poem called Aino and Sibelius responded with one of his own, the ambitious Kullervo.
