Humbug is the third studio album by English rock band Arctic Monkeys, first released on 19 August 2009 through the Domino Recording Company. The band started to write songs for the album towards the end of summer 2008, and finished it entirely in spring 2009. Like their previous release, Favourite Worst Nightmare (2007), Humbug was released first in Japan, on 19 August 2009, followed by Australia, Brazil, Ireland and Germany, on 21 August 2009
Humbug is Arctic Monkeys' third studio album. The album was recorded at the luxurious Rancho de la Luna during a pause in touring and activity in 2008. This short hiatus was a change in pace after the quick work ethic displayed in between their debut and Favourite Worst Nightmare. When the band started, we didn’t want to let anyone in – for fear it would change things, and it wouldn’t be us anymor. nd we did our second record dead quick, because there was this desire to shed our skin and demonstrate that we had more up our sleeve. But with this one, we were prepared to put a bit more consideration into it.
We have a theory about the album Humbug (2009). You know how the whole album he is talking about some girl? This isn’t just some girl. She was his girlfriend that died, and through the whole album he tells a story of his slow decent into insanity. Not to mention, not anybody would just go actually crazy and be that hung up on her like he does. How he is acting is as if something frequent and traumatic happened. The next song on this album is Crying Lightning. The very first thing that is sung is Outside the cafe by the cracker factory you were practicing a magic trick. First of all, this line is very specific.
Humbug is the third studio album by the Sheffield-based band Arctic Monkeys. The album was co-produced by Josh Homme (Queens of the Stone Age) and James Ford (Simian Mobile Disco), who had previously worked with the band on Favourite Worst Nightmare. It was recorded in early 2009 in New York City, Los Angeles and Josh Hommes' Rancho de la Luna in the Mojave Desert, California. Early soundbites of tracks from the album appeared in the band's periodical video diary on YouTube
This album has an average beat per minute of 122 BPM (slowest/fastest tempos: 96/170 BPM). See its BPM profile at the bottom of the page.
Humbug,' the 3rd album from Sheffield's Arctic Monkeys finds the band brimming with vim, vigor and new ideas. They brought in a new production accomplice, Josh Homme, for some of the recording. He generously hosted and produced tracks with them at his Joshua Tree studio. Then they rejoined forces with James Ford, producer of the previous 2 Arctic Monkeys and Last Shadow Puppets albums, in Brooklyn, NY to complete the tracks that became 'Humbug. The album is stunning set of songs both heavier and lush than previous albums but still full of the Monkeys usual punch and.
It's pretty much impossible to think of Humbug without referring back to Josh Homme's role as producer - his grubby fingerprints are all over this album, which is shot through with a psychedelic heaviness unseen before on an Arctic Monkeys album. This is no normal producer/artist relationship - this is a George Martin-Beatles democracy of ideas, a set-up where Homme assumes the role of Brian Eno and Alex Turner is David Byrne, or David Bowie, or Bono. So in reality, it's not too surprising that Humbug is the weakest Arctic Monkeys album yet. What is surprising, though, is where the strengths and weaknesses of this album lie.
