An extended play record, often referred to as an EP, is a musical recording that contains more tracks than a single, but is usually unqualified as an album or LP. Contemporary EPs generally contain a minimum of three tracks and maximum of six tracks, and are considered "less expensive and time-consuming" for an artist to produce than an album.

Album covers and liner notes are used, and sometimes additional information is provided, such as analysis of the recording, and lyrics or librettos. Historically, the term "album" was applied to a collection of various items housed in a book format. An album may contain as many or as few tracks as required. In the United States, The Recording Academy's rules for Grammy Awards state that an album must comprise a minimum total playing time of 15 minutes with at least five distinct tracks or a minimum total playing time of 30 minutes with no minimum track requirement. In the United Kingdom, the criteria for the UK Albums Chart is that a recording counts. Some musical artists have also released more than three compact discs or LP records of new recordings at once, in the form of boxed sets, although in that case the work is still usually considered to be an album.

Five Knives exclusively perform new album tracks. It’s finally here, the debut album from Nashville’s turbo-charged electro-rock crew Five Knives. The Red Bull Records band, comprised of singer Anna M’Queen, guitarist and synth man Nathan Barlowe, electronics wiz Zach Hall and drummer Shane Wise, have been working on Savages for years. But now the band famed for their crazy fire-fuelled live shows and a front gal nicknamed Rushin’ Doll because of her whirling-dervish energy are about to bust out of the studio like synth-wielding punks. Mark Needham has mixed Imagine Dragons, The Killers, Shakira and P!nk; how did he react to hearing your crazy EDM-rock gumbo?

Notes

Maintaining the level of quality fans of Wax:On events have come to expect, sister music label Wax:On Music maintains the reputation and returns to market with yet more uncompromised audio quality. This, their 5th title, showcases the heavy electro musical bombs from synth-saboteur, Ado.

The new Ado EP is entirely the opposite of "nice" house music. Like a ketamine trip rinsed in Red Bull ‘Three Tracks' is three tracks of fury, but funky as fuck. Saw-toothed nastiest, acid washed percussives, warehouse sized basslines and an uninhibited ‘balls-out' attitude.

Track titles one and two, ‘Jerk' and ‘Belter Drive', serve-up equal but large-measure shots full to the brim with rave-house sprit. Two opportunities for jox to send sweaty floors into plus-ten territory. Meanwhile track three, ‘X-Ray' offers a (tiny) reprieve with its slick, squelching flat-beat and rising/dipping, criss-crossing melodies. Messy fun.

For those that are looking ahead to what's hot for 2011, make no mistake Ado is molten rock, let ‘Three Tracks' be testament to that. Amen.
