Free-Jazz supergroup featuring members of Jooklo & Konstrukt. After we reissued his wonderful album Musikî (privately released on Intex Sound in 1974) and a few collaborative albums with the Konstrukt collective, in 2017 we finally managed to invite him, Doğan Doğusel, Cem Tan and Umut Çağlar to play some shows in Italy as a quartet.

This excellent live date from the Village Vanguard was the recording debut of the Adderley sextet, with Cannonball waxing eloquently and swingingly on alto, brother Nat charging ahead on cornet, and the versatile Yusef Lateef (who had joined the band only three weeks earlier) adding a bit of an edge on tenor, flute, and unusually for a jazz wind player, oboe on the. odd, dirge-like "Syn-Anthesia. This group would be Zawinul's springboard to prominence in the jazz world, and readily apparent is how his compulsively funky mastery of bop and the blues had fused tightly with the Sam Jones/Louis Hayes rhythm section.

If any album on this list demands immediate reissue, it’s Peace In The World; though I wouldn’t complain if Musra’s Creator Spaces returned to the land of the living either. Turkish drummer Ertunç was part of a trio of free jazz players, alongside Michael Cosmic and Phill Musra, who released a trilogy of stunning albums in 1974 before largely dropping out of vinyl view, though the latter two did appear on John Jamyll Jones’ World’s Experience Orchestra’s excellent The Beginning Of A New Birth in 1975. Jeanne Lee was a jazz vocalist from New York City who worked with a number of brilliant figures from free jazz circles – she appears on records by Marion Brown, Archie Shepp, Rahsaan Roland Kirk, and was part of the Jazz Composer’s Orchestra circles, appearing on the monolithic Carla Bley & Paul Haines piece, Escalator Over The Hill.
