Yuji Oniki's Tvi is a calming mix of '80s adult contemporary and Japanese-flavored pop. Obviously, this sounds as though it makes for a strange 13-song album but, surprisingly, Oniki's voice is reassuring, strong, and carries each tune home safely. With a wide array of helpers, including members of Beulah and Guided By Voices, Tvi is quite a rarity, as Oniki not only writes the songs on the album but also arranges them for the entire band. Much of the album contains a brilliantly warm feeling, and is excellent toe-tapping material

Yuji Naka (中 裕司 Naka Yūji, born September 17, 1965) is a Japanese video game programmer, designer, and producer best known as the former head of Sonic Team, where he was the lead programmer of the original Sonic the Hedgehog series of games on the Sega Genesis. In 2006, he founded Prope, an independent game company. In January 2018, he joined Square Enix. Naka learned how to program by replicating and debugging video game code printed in magazines

Yuji Oniki sounds like the male version of Natalie Imbruglia  . Oniki is based in Oakland, California; most of the record was recorded at his house, with a small band. He then sent the tracks all over the place, including to Japan, where Katsui Yuji of Rovo added a little violin, and Sakana's Nishiwaki added some guitar. Next stop for the tapes was Cleveland, where Guided by Voices' Doug Gillard tacked on a couple of guitar solos. Furthermore, Beulah's Bill Swan blew his horn (trumpet) to flesh out some of the arrangements.
