About Jet By Day. Playing emo-influenced indie rock with a hard rock-guitar accent, Jet by Day was formed in 1997 in Athens, GA, by guitarist/singer David Matysiak, drummer Tom Naumann, and bassist Bo Wamsley. All three were students at the University of Georgia at the time, and they soon began playing at house parties and underground punk venues around the state. In 1999, with the band's popularity on the rise on the Southern indie rock scene, Wamsley amicably left the group to spend more time with his studies and Amy Burmeister stepped in as the group's new bassist.

Jet by Day was originally formed as the Hosstages in 1997 by guitarist David Matysiak, bassist Bo Wamsley and drummer Tom Naumann, while the three were students at Dunwoody High School in suburban Atlanta. In 1998 they changed their name to Jet By Day, and Matysiak and Naumann began attending the University of Georgia. The band self-released EPs in 1998 and 1999, between which Wamsley was replaced by Amy Burmeister, and began building a fan base among the indie rock scene of the American South.
