In 1978, the band released their debut album, Briefcase Full of Blues, and opened for the Grateful Dead at the closing of Winterland Arena in San Francisco. They gained further notoriety after spawning a Hollywood comedy film in 1980, The Blues Brothers. After Belushi's death in 1982, the Blues Brothers continued to perform with a rotation of guest singers and other band members. After the show, Belushi and Salgado talked about the blues for hours. Belushi found Salgado's enthusiasm infectious. The Blues Brothers recorded their first album, Briefcase Full of Blues, in 1978 while opening for comedian Steve Martin at Los Angeles' Universal Amphitheatre. The album reached on the Billboard 200, went double platinum, and featured Top 40 hit recordings of Sam and Dave's "Soul Man" and The Chips' "Rubber Biscuit".

Hear a variety of free harmonica music tracks by Australian player and teacher Tony Eyers. These traditional harmonica tunes are different. This is Billy in the Lowground, from my Black Mountain Harmonica CD. This track is also on the album Pace Yourself, by the great US harmonica player PT Gazell. In fact I arranged my version so that it went at the same speed as PTs, perhaps inspired by his album title. The guitar and mandolin are played by my good friendJohn Bridgland. Whiskey Before Breakfast (hopefully not!), from my Black Mountain Harmonica CD.

Learn to play harmonica/blues harp-Beginning level songs and 1st position major scale. Start with the "Major Scale" or "Mary Had a Little Lamb"- Pick one of these beginning level songs/scales and slowly read and play through it 3-5 times to get a feel for the melody. We're not going for perfection yet, we just want the melody to be recognizable. Commit it to memory- Once you've accomplished the above, look away from the song and then try to do it from memory.
