The Gathering is the eighth studio album by American thrash metal band Testament, released on June 28, 1999. It was the first release the band had done with Spitfire Records. Co-produced by band members, Chuck Billy and Eric Peterson, this was the first album featuring new musicians Steve DiGiorgio on bass guitar and Dave Lombardo on drums.

Testament‘s The Spitfire Collection is a mixed bag of studio and live tracks taken from the band’s catalog with, of course, the Spitfire record label. Half of their releases with Spitfire were live discs; in essence, this offering is another best of compilation, including their better known material from the Megaforce years. Largely known as The Other Bay Area Thrashers, Testament is probably the second biggest band to emerge from San Francisco touting the Thrash-Metal banner (Metallica being the most popular). The album was an immediate hit in the Thrash-Metal scene. The band, a menacing Chuck Billy, alongside guitarists Alex Skolnick and Eric Peterson, and rounded out with bassist Gregg Christian and drummer Louie Clemente, set upon the world with an all-out assault.

Although Testament made the jump to another label (Nuclear Blast), Spitfire wasn't through with their old pals, as they offered the appropriately titled The Spitfire Collection in 2007, which collected highlights from the aforementioned quintet of albums. Despite this 14-track set not including original versions of the early Testament classics, what you do get is a pretty faithful representation of where Testament was at during this time.
