Speed The Plough Lyrics. The girl I love waits for me now She'll be standing by the well She may have to wait until it's dry Because I am off to hell. Speed the Plough I'll wait no more for fire from God Listen to me now Speed the plough, speed the plough

One is a tune popular in Scotland with Country Dance bands and in England with Morris dancers. Another is an Irish tune, related to the Anglo-Scottish one, also known by a few other names, including Croghan Hill. Colm Gannon, Jesse Smith and John Blake play a version of this tune under the name "McGreevy’s" as the opening tune on their album "The Ewe With The Crooked Horn". They got it from a tape of Johnny McGreevy from Chicago playing at a late night party. Posted by Finito 9 years ago. The well-known tune Speed the Plough (played by . The Morris Motor Band in a historic recording on Tap Roots: A History of the New Wave of English Country Dance Music, the Albion Band on Lark Rise to Candleford, and Spiers & Boden on Vagabond ) is not related to this. Muckram Wakes sang The Farmer's Arms in 1976 on their eponymous Trailer album, Muckram Wakes.

Speed the Plough mixes Yo La Tengo's faraway feeling of summer daydreams with the edgier lyrics and more somber mien of the Feelies. After a couple of decades off for parenthood, the latest version of Speed the Plough revved its engines with two records in 2010 and 2011. Their band bio updates this to say that while Ian and Dan have since flown the coop, John Demeski joins, to keep it in the family, along with "talented and charming" bassist Cindi Merklee.
