John Anthony Genzale (July 15, 1952 – April 23, 1991), better known by his stage name Johnny Thunders, was an American rock and roll/punk rock guitarist, singer and songwriter. He came to prominence in the early 1970s as a member of the New York Dolls. He later played with The Heartbreakers and as a solo artist. Thunders was born John Anthony Genzale in Queens, New York, where he first lived in East Elmhurst and then Jackson Heights.

Johnny Thunders is one of the most important figures of 1970s' rock'n'roll reinassance which would lead to punk-rock. His last studio album has to be the best cover album of all time 'Copy Cats by Johnny Thunders & Patti Palladin. Sadly after writing new songs and touring extensively Thunders died in 1991 before he got a chance to record them in New Orleans with fellow band mate Jerry Nolan on drums again. There are studio versions of the songs on the cd Sticks and Stones but they were just a soundboard rough recording. Had he lived he would have recorded a fantastic studio album with the best musicians from New Orleans.
