Stan Kenton's concerts in the 1970s were exciting events, and this 1976 performance delivers the impact of a front-row seat, complete with Stan's introductions to the tunes and soloists. This brings back fond memories for me because I participated in one of Kenton's jazz workshops just two months before this was recorded, so I spent a week interacting with these talented characters  . Though Stan Kenton would lead his band on tours in 1977 and 1978, this live recording from September 1976 is the band's last official recording. This well recorded 46 CD (a straight re-issue of the LP) is a thrilling, if unplanned, finale to Kenton's recording career.

Stanley Newcomb Kenton (December 15, 1911 August 25, 1979) led a highly innovative, influential, and often controversial American jazz orchestra. In later years he was widely active as an educator. Stan Kenton was born in Wichita, Kansas, and raised first in Colorado and then in California. He learned piano as a child, and while still a teenager toured with various bands.

Stanley Newcomb Kenton (December 15, 1911 – August 25, 1979) was an American popular music and jazz artist. As a pianist, composer, arranger and band leader he led an innovative and influential jazz orchestra for almost four decades. Though Kenton had several pop hits from the early 1940s into the 1960s, his music was always forward looking. Kenton was also a pioneer in the field of jazz education, creating the Stan Kenton Jazz Camp in 1959 at Indiana University.

RE: BAOI:
- GEMA (label A): normally = german rights society
- N.C.B. (label A & B) - probably Nordic Copyright Bureau? but sometimes also seen as publisher
This LP is made in the UK but no UK rights society (= MCPS) on labels.. Why the german rights society or the one for northern countries are used here is is not clear.
So both are listed as "other" under BAOI
The recordings were made on the 1976 European Tour so probably the RS for Germany, Northern Countries and UK are involved?
