Zimbabwe Nkenya - Zimbabwe Nkenya and the New Jazz ‎(CD, Album).

She and Nkenya left St. Louis more than 30 years ago for New Mexico, where she worked for arts nonprofits and he led jazz ensembles, including Black Jazz Culture, ZIYA, Contrabass Quartet, and African Space Project. He taught music to schoolchildren, as well as to the general public in other ways as the host of KUNM-FM’s The House That Jazz Built. He played music all over the country, including at New York’s Knitting Factory and Detroit’s One World Festival

I had the pleasure of hearing Zimbabwe Nkenya perform a couple of years ago, when he opened for Cooper-Moore at Joe's Cafe. Rather than stringing together adjectives, I'll just encourange you to go here and listen. The folks at New Music Circle, as well as a group of friends and musicians, are doing a benefit concert for Nkenya this Saturday, January 30, at the Kranzberg Arts Center. The program includes performances by Jim Hegarty, Fred Tompkins, Deb Summers of New Music Circle; Bobo Shaw, drums and George Sams, trumpet; Dave Cheli's Tribal Chicken ; HaZMaT (Tom Zirkle and Matt Henry) Baba Mike Nelson, trumpet; and poets Curtis Lyle and Michael Castro.

Prophet Nkenya Ekt Olletey. 13 March ·. Truth is not popular, and popular opinionated people do not always speak truth, for truth is like a minority that is seldom seen or recognized for it's profound impact or influence on society, the world, and humanity. But surely truths impact and influence is definitely profound, and undeniable, but because truth is always a minority, you might never see it's imprint or hear it's voice in the whole scheme of things or the absolute truth of the matter s importance, it's impact, and it's profound .
