Thirty Years of Maximum R&B is a box set by British rock band, The Who released by Polydor Records internationally and by MCA Records in the . since 2003, it has been issued in America by Geffen Records. The set consists of four CDs that spans The Who's career from their early days when they were known as The High Numbers 1964 to their 1991 cover of Elton John's "Saturday Night's Alright for Fighting"

Previously unreleased rarities include some interesting selections (the '60s outtakes "Early Morning Cold Taxi" and "Melancholia"), but these bits and pieces, which include some live versions, commercials, Keith Moon sketches, and the like, are mostly inessential.

Most of the 79 tracks, bar those recorded with Shel Talmy, were remastered and/or remixed. The package was extremely well received by critics.

The Who‘s catalog is rich enough to support scores of successful anthologies, official and bootleg, laced with unreleased material. Yet this box set had been preprogrammed by classic rock pundits as an easy call: singles, key album tracks and rarities, plus digitally remastered versions of the usual suspects from Tommy, Who’s Next and Quadrophenia. Chris Charlesworth, the author and archivist who assembled Thirty Years of Maximum R&B, had other ideas. Thirty Years of Maximum R&B dispels – hopefully once and for all – the cartoon notions of the Who propagated by 15 years of nothing but Won’t Get Fooled Again and Pinball Wizard. More importantly, this set makes the case for rock as, above all, a live medium.

Talk about The Who - Maximum R&B

Reemiel
Wonderful Compilation from studio recordings, I bought this one in the late 80'S, but i'm not sure, anyway in Milano (Italy) in those great records shop in which you could find rarities and very good offivial LPs (the record shop was called "Supporti Fonografici) . The record sounds very good, it's a early WHO compilation. I'm in love with this one!
