Under the Cherry Moon is a 1986 American musical film directed by and starring Prince in his directorial debut. The film was a critical and commercial failure, winning five Golden Raspberry Awards, including Worst Picture, tying with Howard the Duck.

Undaunted by the criticism Around the World in a Day received, Prince continued to pursue his psychedelic inclinations on Parade, which also functioned as the soundtrack to his second film, Under the Cherry Moon. Originally conceived as a double album, Parade has the sprawling feel of a double record, even if it clocks in around 45 minutes

Lyrically, this album is very romantic and poetic. It conjures up images of french kissing on the banks of some Parisian river, under a cherry moon of course. This is a frantic yet strange offering from Prince. The movie is also a wonderful piece of work, which makes the total package worth it.

Prince began working on the album in mid-April 1985, shortly before the release of the previous album, Around The World In A Day, and began by recording the drum track in sequence of Wendy's Parade (late renamed Christopher Tracy's Parade), New Position, I Wonder U and Under The Cherry Moon, all in one take. He then layered other instruments over all four tracks
