Rhythm And Stealth ‎(2xLP, Album). Hard Hands, Columbia. HANDLP4, COL 488527 1. UK & Europe. Rhythm & Stealh ‎(Cass, Album, Unofficial). Sound Age Production.

Rhythm and Stealth is the quintessential "difficult sophomore" album. Leftfield definitely want us to recall Leftism, but they also point a defining finger into the future.

Listen free to Leftfield – Rhythm and Stealth (Dusted, Phat Planet and more). Rhythm and Stealth is an album by Leftfield released on 20 September 1999. It was the follow up to 1995's Leftism. The album reached in the UK album chart. It was nominated for the Mercury Music Prize in 2000 but lost out to Badly Drawn Boy's The Hour of Bewilderbeast. Rhythm and Stealth had a notably harsher underlying beat than its predecessor with songs such as "Phat Planet" and "Afrika Shox" being much darker than those on the previous album  . After Leftfield's debut album Leftism, which was released in 1995, it took 4 years for the London-based producers duo to release the sequel. Sounding completely different than the first album, Rhythm And Stealth was worth waiting for. It sounds more diverse and solid than its predecessor and contains exciting collaborations with Roots Manuva on the track "Dusted" and Hip Hop pioneer Afrika Bambaataa on the dance floor killer "Afrika Shox", which was accompanied by a state-of-the-art and shocking video.

Stealth Remixes is an album by Leftfield released on 29 May 2000, originally on Leftfield's official web-site. It was the follow-up to 1999's Rhythm and Stealth and essentially contained remixes of songs from that album. The album was released on CD and double-12". Later, it was released as a double album along with Rhythm and Stealth. Phat Planet (Dave Clarke Remix)" – 5:52. El Cid (I-Cube Simple Mix)" – 5:52. Rino's Prayer (Nick Rapaccioli Remix)" – 5:39.

Album: Rhythm and Stealth. Duration: 52:58 Year: 1999. 0:00 ? Leftfield albums.

Other albums by Leftfield. Universal Everything. The grooves on Rhythm and Stealth are a bit too languid and the productions a bit too intricate for dancefloor consumption. The one track that might make fans yearn for the heady days of 1993, "El Cid," begins with the ephemeral synth for which Leftfield has been known, but soon moves into breakbeat territory. Hip-hop pioneer Afrika Bambaataa makes an appearance on the excellent "Afrika Shox," taking the mic on a brutal electro throwdown.

Talk about Leftfield - Rhythm And Stealth

TheSuspect
This 5 X 10 " box is the way to go: IMMACULATE !!!
watching to future
Sounds awesome-- huge bass. Mastered very loud. Mine has skips at the end of "Phat Planet" when played with my Ortofon Arkiv stylus. When I switch to a Ortofon Concorde DJ stylus, no skips. Kind of annoying I have to switch cartridges for certain records, but so be it.
Doomwarden
My copy of this pressing sounds very good. Quiet, flat and centered.
Stick
Outstanding and criminally overlooked release. Leftfield moved from progressive house to dark breakbeat and it's a fine achievement.Honestly, do you have ever heard something like "Rino's Prayer" ? God, the goosebups are HUGE here. Each time I listen to it I recall the Spirit Temple in the game Ocarina of Time, and that is irreplaceable !In fact, like "Leftism", there are only mint songs. It may not as the innovative status of "Leftism", but "Rhythm and Stealth" is really an absolute must-have in any decent electronic collection.
Zyangup
It's a hard life being the second at things: the second man on the moon for example.Leftfield's follow-up to their revered debut suffers by comparison, but it's extremely good. Gone are the genre-stradling indie-rock crossovers and in it's place an album that sounds coherent as if it were written and performed by the same group at the same time, rather than a compilation of singles and album tracks jostling for company. It's a bit grungy, a bit dirtier than it's predecessor, hard and heavy and a bit darker. But, there are no bad tracks on it, in fact everyone's a winner, whether be the electro funk of Afrika Shox, the trippy El Cid, the killer Phat Planet or the vocal tracks including Swords' sweet soulful dub. It sounds fresh innovative and exciting, on the strength of it you could predict Leftfield's emerge as an essential band (like Underworld without the old-time music hall tradition or The Chemical Brothers without the redneck stomp), which, of course is entirely what didn't happen.Where it suffers is; it came second. It will always be the album that wasn't Leftism.

a album too great for his own time , futuristic sound predicted ! the time has given to it the just valuation and now is rated un amazing pioneering album ! i can assume is as amazing as Leftism but on the other hand this lust one now sounds little old is always a pleasure to listen Rhythm And Stealth and get a good fresh sound !

This is a much under-rated album. Its not as seminal as Leftism but still has way more than just Phat Planet (Which is still a great track). Like Leftism it is a journey through bangin' floor fillers and dreamy laid back numbers. Leftfield did a huge amount for pushing electronic music in the 90's and this album is no exception.
Legend 33
Holding on to this one.

every copy of this UK press Ive come across has a mispress in the middle of 'phat planet' - go for the US columbia press, its far better quality
Conjuril
Not mine - it's perfect. How many copies did you have?
SkroN
One of the best electronic albums ever made, I'll even say it's better than Leftism too. Essential albums made by an essential act.
Tisicai
This release, IMO anyway, was miles ahead of Leftism in a number of ways. As stated, it's mixed in a certain way that the tracks flow like a stream through the album, without actually bieng layered. This album was sooo ahead of it's time, people even today don't seem to like it. At 7 years old the tracks don't sound dated and probably never will. You have a bit of everything on this one, some banging tunes, some downtempo, and even some lyrical moments too, a classic.
Oreavi
Unlike the CD, this release has the distinct advantage of having all tracks unmixed. "Dub Gussett", "Swords", and "6/8 War" are all *slightly* longer since they contain the proper intro and outro. The 2x12" version of this release still mixes "6/8 War" into "Rino's Prayer".
Painshade
I have the reissue of Rhythm and Stealth (Music On Vinyl) which is 2x12" are the versions of "Swords" and "Dub Gussett" the same as this 5x10" box set or is it the same as the CD?
Quellik
Another masterpiece from Neil Barnes and Paul Daley: more terse and concise than 'Leftism', nevertheless it includes great tracks like 'Afrika Shox' (with rap legend Afrika Bambaataa) and the techno-dub rhythm of '6/8 War'.
Maveri
To be honest this record was a massive disappointment. Without any of the hooks of Leftism it seems devoid of tunes to make the beats more interesting. Phat Planet aside there is nothing remarkable on here and by the number that litter second hand shops rarely listened to.
Vosho
This appears to identical in every respect except Cat No. to "Rhythm And Stealth: Stealth Remixes" (HANDCD4X) which was also a limited edition. If adding this to your collection - check you get the right one :)
