While the splendid "authorized bootleg" The Blow-Up is likely to remain the definitive document of Television's awe-inspiring live prowess, Live at the Old Waldorf - a professional recording of a 1978 San Francisco date on the band's last tour before their 1992 reunion - runs a very close second, and the superior sound quality allows one to. better appreciate the subtle textures lurking beneath Verlaine and Lloyd's Stratocaster firepower.

Past six days My articles. com, shows apparently substandard songs like The Dream's Dream and Ain't That Nothin' flourishing on the road into sturdier propositions, alongside essential extrapolations of Marquee Moon's key moments.

Absolutely Live is the first live album by American rock band the Doors, released July 20, 1970 by Elektra Records. The double album features tracks recorded at concerts held between July 1969 at the Aquarius Theater in Hollywood and May 1970 at the Cobo Arena in Detroit. The album included the first full release of the performance piece "Celebration of the Lizard" and several other tracks that had not previously appeared on any official Doors release

Talk about Television - Live At The Old Waldorf - San Francisco, 6/29/78

My favorite Television recording, it's a moment frozen in time. The recording quality is superb, The songs are harder, faster and have more urgency. The best version of Little Johnny Jewel and maybe the best jam session ever committed to wax.The song speeds up without the listener noticing, GODLIKE! Every song is great, totally engaging to listen to, it's essential. MASTERPIECE!

Really terrific sound quality on this one. Might be listed as "unofficial" but this is miles better than many other 180g pressings I've heard on legit labels. I picked mine up for 18 bucks at HPB and it was worth every penny. Highly recommended. Each track is crystal clear. Also, there's no pesky audience blocking out the sound.

This pressing sounds fantastic! Little surface noise and very clean sound. Many details on the packaging may be off from reality but the music sounds great!

This is one of the best sounding remaster/reissues I own. Wow. Punchy drums, deep, bold bass, superb dynamics, amazing guitar tone. Fills the room splendidly. 10/10.

I agree. The sound quality is excellent (as it ought to be as it was originally a radio broadcast), and seems like a solid pressing on 180gr. Fewer songs that the Rhino version, and in a different order, presumably for length reasons, which is a bit of a shame. It would be nice to have the whole gig. Sound quality wise, no complaints.

OK, I bought this version last week. Although the sides are long and the songs unedited, I thought the sound quality was excellent. If there is any editing at all, it would be between songs. There's barely any crowd noise. Each instrument and Verlaine's vocals were clearly separated. It was easy to hear intricate work from Lloyd and all of the little things Ficca does with the drums. I was skeptical, but one listen has me convinced that the quality is every bit as much as you would hope for. I think this is the best live album of all time and this was my first time listening to it lossless and on vinyl, so I may be just blown away at all I had missed before. I doubt anyone would be unhappy with this version though.

Any more info on this? Sound quality any good?

Unless this new vinyl version has edited the track lengths this has to be a 58 minute single LP. Rhino's white vinyl was a double, the CD version is 63 mins - and the new version only omits Satisfaction. Hard to see how it could maintain the sound quality of the (massively more expensive) earlier release. Would be great to get a review from someone who has it.

This record is of astonishingly good sound quality. It appears to be a bootleg, yet you can only tell by the simple presentation and waves in the record (albeit these didn't affect the sound so far). The titles are similar to the 2011 Elektra live release but in different order and with the exception of "(I Can't Get No) Satisfaction". Also, the runtime is shorter. Apparently, this is because parts where you'd hear the band announce songs and the like are removed. The record comes in a simple thicker plastic sleeve, imprinted with the records information. The record itself, however, is without any imprint, of no color and transparent. The centers are plain yellow, neither side is specified as A nor B.

this is an official record. the label also did these coloured live 12''es with kevin ayers, caravan... besides to me this is the version with the best sound quality. almost don t notice it s a live record. so don t miss out

Lovely live album, really fine audio quality, and scorching renditions of classic songs (plus a nice Stones cover!). My advice: If you're a Television fan, you should track down a digital copy to listen to. You can buy the mp3 album, it's readily available for a very reasonable price at various online retailers. If you want it on vinyl, be warned: you're now forced to deal with scalpers, essentially. The vinyl was produced in limited quantities and sold on Record Store Day (April 16, 2011). All these vinyl copies were snatched up by scalpers first thing in the morning and immediately appeared for sale online for $80 and up. Go ahead, click on the "buy vinyl" button and have a look. Those guys literally bought it this morning and jacked the price up 400%. I have no problem whatsoever with people selling old records for a lot of money. New releases, though, that's ridiculous, and it is very much against the spirit of Record Store Day, which was created to celebrate music and record stores, to get music-lovers excited about coming out to the store to buy amazing music! Instead, this fantastic idea is subverted through scalping. In a fairly direct way, this scalping/pricejacking is essentially a war on independent music stores. Ugly ugly ugly.

Does anybody know about the single LP clear vinyl version of this that was released in 2013? I ordered a copy of this from my local record shop and instead of the RSD version it was a single clear vinyl copy in 140gm in a clear sleeve. Have to say I'm really disappointed, but the only song it's missing is their cover of "Satisfaction". I'll probably still buy it, but I can't find any information on it. Just curious.

deally-stan: Extra-classy to remove your whole argument for flipping RSD releases the day of sale only two months later. Amazing.

If your investment in time and costs brings you to just break even, why are you doing it? I can't really buy the "I'll just break even" as a true fact, I'm sorry. No offense, and I'm sure your rationalization sounds good to you, but my nose definitely catches the whiff of what smells like a heapin' shovelful of manure. "It's my business what I do with the record I purchased." Yes it is. And you purchased it strictly to resell it for a much higher price on the *very same day*, based on your knowledge of its highly limited status, which is the essence of scalping.

(Edit: this is a reply to bobthecat, not the original post I made! :) ) Yeah, this Television release was *specifically* for Record Store Day. I.e., it released as a way to get people excited about these non-chain, local retailers! Buying the release and bunging it online THAT VERY SAME DAY IT WAS RELEASED for four times the original price...that's just karate chopping these little shops right in the throat. Seriously, anyone who does this obviously has zero respect for these indie stores at all. How many true music fans went into the shop to pick up a copy, only to be told "Oh I'm sorry, we don't have anymore. We sold out five minutes after we opened this morning."? And then these people think, "I can maybe find a copy online!" only to discover — oops! — it's now going to cost you what's essentially the financial equivalent of a full day's work for most average folks. Reaaaaally classy, this kind of capitalism, huh?
GoodLike
I totally agree! Awesome album, very well done and well worth the original 19.95 price, but the ridiculous prices people are asking now really takes away from the enjoyment of the album.
