Totti Bergh is a fine Norwegian tenorman who is quite unknown in the . but American jazz fans will be interested in this LP due to the presence of the great tenor Al Cohn. Cohn and Bergh make for a strong team on seven standards while backed by a fine Norwegian rhythm section (pianist Egil Kapstad, bassist Terje Venaas, and drummer Ole Jacob Hansen). Both tenors swing well together on such tunes as "Do Nothing Till You Hear from Me," "East of the Sun," and "The Hymn," and their version of "Skylark" is quite lyrical.

Al Cohn was a tenor saxophonist from New York, born in 1925. Sadly he died in 1988, but his performance at the 1986 Oslo Jazz Festival in Norway is documented on this live recording. On this session Cohn teams up with Totti Bergh also on tenor sax, bringing back memories of his many famous past partnerships with Zoot Sims. The first track introduces the female vocalist Laila Dalseth on the Gershwin ballard "Someone To Watch Over Me," where she does sound very much like Billie Holiday. You would be forgiven for forgetting that she is Norwegian! Dalseth sings on six of the nine tracks.

Bergh started to play clarinet, and picked up the saxophone in 1952. In 1956 he entered the ranks of professional musicians. He also made trips on the Norwegian America Ships with the ships' house orchestra on the voyage to New York He has released several albums, and his music is reminiscent of the world-renowned tenorists Lester Young and Dexter Gordon.
