San Patricio is an album by the Irish musical group, The Chieftains featuring Ry Cooder, released in 2010. It was their first album with Hear Music and the first studio album in 6 1/2 years since Further Down The Old Plank Road (2003). It tells the story of the San Patricio battalion-a group of mainly Irish immigrant volunteer soldiers who deserted the . Army in 1846 to fight on the Mexican side in the Mexican–American War (1846–1848).

While this album sounds like the Chieftains playing in fusion mode, it is so much more ambitious than anything they’ve attempted before.

The Californian guitarist and the Irish folk heavyweights are seasoned collaborators as well as inveterate globetrotters. It was while they were recording together in Havana in the 1990s that the Irishmen introduced Cooder to the musicians who would star in his nostalgic world music bestseller, the Buena Vista Social Club

The Chieftains featuring Ry Cooder. The Chieftains featured Cooder and came together again for the Grammy-winning 1997 album, ‘Santiago. Cooder sings the legend of the San Patricios in the moving ballad "The Sands of Mexico," which he wrote for this album.

Cooder produced and performed on an album for Mavis Staples entitled We'll Never Turn Back, which was released on April 24, 2007 .
