The face was wind-browned, cut by lines of weariness and cynical resignation; the eyes were intelligent. Eddie Willers walked on, wondering why he always felt it at this time of day, this sense of dread without reason. No, he thought, not dread, there's nothing to fear: just an immense, diffused apprehension, with no source or object. He was thirty-nine years old. He lifted his head with irritation, at the sound of the opening door. Don't bother me, don't bother me, don't bother me," said James Taggart. He shrugged and smiled- he was alive for a moment and it was the strangest smile she had ever seen: it held secret amusement, and heartbreak, and an infinite bitterness. He answered: "Who is John Gait?" Chapter II the chain.

Atlas Shrugged: Part I (referred to onscreen as simply Atlas Shrugged) is a 2011 American political science fiction drama film directed by Paul Johansson. An adaptation of part of Ayn Rand's controversial 1957 novel of the same name, the film is the first in a trilogy encompassing the entire book. After various treatments and proposals floundered for nearly 40 years, investor John Aglialoro initiated production in June 2010.
Something about this book intrigues people, whether it's the characters, the ideas, or just the mystery plot itself. In fact, Atlas Shrugged has even seen a renewed surge in popularity lately, coinciding with the recent financial crisis. If you want to see some of the news coverage of this, check out our "Best of the Web" section. In an old episode of South Park, a character who reads Atlas Shrugged declares that the book ruined reading for him and that he would never read another book again. If you want to watch this hilarious clip, head on over to the "Best of the Web" section. There's a reason this book is so often made the butt of jokes.
I enjoy Atlas Shrugged quite a bit, and will re-read it every couple of years when I feel in the mood. It has a propulsively potboilery pace so long as Ayn Rand’s not having one of her characters gout forth screeds in a sock-puppety fashion. A good way for me to describe how I relate to Atlas Shrugged is to note that one time when I was in college in Chicago, the only way for me to get back home to California for the Christmas holidays was to take a Greyhound bus. This meant a 53-hour-long bus ride in the company of felons (no joke; the bus stopped at Joliet and some rather skeevy-looking parolees from the prison got on.
The working title throughout the writing was "The Strike. The earliest of Miss Rand's notes for "The Strike" are dated January 1, 1945, about a year after the publication of The Fountainhead. He must face other men as they are, recognizing them as essentially independent entities, by nature, and beyond his primary influence; deal with them only on his own, independent terms, deal with such as he judges can fit his purpose or live up to his standards (by themselves and of their own will, independently of him)-and expect nothing.
