Jackson Browne is the eponymous debut album of singer Jackson Browne released in 1972. It peaked on the Billboard 200 chart at number 53. Two singles were released with "Doctor, My Eyes" peaking at number 8 on the Pop Singles chart and "Rock Me on the Water" reaching number 48. Browne had been having minor success as a songwriter but was still unable to obtain his own recording contract.

Jackson Browne's 1996 album "Looking East" is quite a dramatic change of pace for him. This came out relatively quickly after his previous album, the masterpiece "I'm Alive"-less than a 2 & ½ year gap between the albums, which is a small gap for him. It's not surprising that, sonically, "Looking East" is essentially in the same vein as "I'm Alive", however this album is quite stylistically varied, & in that sense, it's rather ambitious. The opening track, Looking East, seems so appropriate today, when many are achingly disaffected with society and government.

Looking East - Jackson Browne. Not one of his best, but up there among the kind of good ones. The Barricades of Heaven' and 'Nino' are excellent tracks, as is the title track. There are a couple of weak ones, but that's not too bad. The whole album is much less folky and West Coast than his earlier ones, and moves along quite well, if that is what you want. And it's not so political as the mid-period 'Lives in the Balance' and 'World in Motion'. I enjoy it, and I am sure you will too.
