Klaus Schulze, Pete Namlook - The Dark Side Of The Moog Vol. 3 ‎(2xLP, Album). With Schulze involved, there are those familiar trademark sequencer cadences that echo back to very early Tangerine Dream -not a bad thing. But then the 'trance' bit kicks in and, as i have said before, this is when Namlook loses ground and starts to tread water instead. First parts of the album are very good. But then the me no likey trance bit. Then more Schulze trademark sounds for a coda. Overall quite good, the kind of thing these two can knock off in their sleep, really

Klaus Schulze and Peter Namlook's The Dark Side Of The Moog series receives a timely update on vinyl, having only been reissued a handful of times since its first release in the early to mid 90s. Much like the second volume, which should be bought in conjuction with this opener, you'll be stuck to find any better sources of ambient or drone on these charts. Yes, the modern kids might verge further into the heart of the rave, but this music has a way of lifting the soul that's rarely matched.

Notes

Total duration: 51:21
Limited to 1000 copies.
Surely a Limited Edition but that's not specified in the release.

Recorded at Moldau Studio, September 1993.

Although there are 10 physical tracks, the album is meant to be played as one single piece (like many earlier FAX albums).
Sub-tracks are not mentioned in the release. Their duration was taken from cd-player.

Made in Germany

According to "The Works", made by Klaus D. Müller, the release date is the 10 of October and it was recorded from 8 to 11 of September 1994 in Hambühren. The FAX Homepage is contradicting regarding the release date, because it says that the date was the 17th of October, but the week was 41, and the 17th of October 1994 is in week 42.

No comments? This was the first fax release i listened to, and the first time i had heard Namlook's work. What a great introduction this was. This release stands as one of the most haunting & beautiful pieces of music i have ever heard. Far from being background music, this had me with my eyes closed and at full attention; reveling in the sound. I can't explain it in any other way, so if you haven't already, do yourself a favor and give this a listen. It's on youtube but can be listened to in higher quality on spotify.
