Resolving Contradictions is an album by British musician Andy Mackay, released on Bronze Records in 1978. Andy Mackay was once Roxy Music's saxophonist, and some members of the group happen to play on this record. This opus is a "concept album" with references to the Chinese culture. The cover, designed by Jane Mackay, figures a sort of post-Cultural Revolution scene. And the sound of most of the numbers relates to what a western world audience could "know" about Chinese music.

Resolving Contradictions. For his second solo album, Andy Mackay enlisted the assistance of two of his Roxy Music friends (Phil Manzanera and Paul Thompson), and following a visit to China in 1978 he recorded this "tribute" to China. It worked brilliantly. This instrumental album not only highlights Mackay's brilliant playing but his underrated talent for writing incredibly melodic, moving songs.

Andy Mackay-saxophonist, oboe player, widely-respected film and television composer, and founder member of Roxy Music-was born in Lostwithiel, Cornwall but grew up in Pimlico in central London. He discovered both classical music (thanks to his father, a talented amateur pianist) and rock 'n' roll (thanks to the BBC Light Programme and Radio Luxembourg). In 1978, a trip with his wife Jane to China inspired a second instrumental solo album, 'Resolving Contradictions', which featured Roxy's Paul Thompson and Phil Manzanera as guests. Roxy then reconvened for the 'Manifesto' and 'Flesh and Blood' albums, and the tragic death of John Lennon in 1980 led to perhaps Andy's most recognised saxophone solo on record, on the group's respectful and heartfelt cover of John's 'Jealous Guy', an international N.

Resolving Contradictions is an album by British musician Andy Mackay, released on Bronze Records in 1978. However, Bryan Ferry eventually confirmed that material from these sessions would be released as a Ferry solo album, with Eno playing on "a couple of tracks", and that he does not think they will ever record as Roxy Music again. The album ultimately became Ferry's 2010 solo album Olympia, which featured contributions from Eno, Manzanera and Mackay (amongst many other session players. Roxy Music played a series of 40th anniversary shows in 2011, but has since become inactive as a performing entity. In 2019, Roxy Music were inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.
