At turns explosive and intimate, the three-hour-plus show performed at a small club in West Hollywood is a legendary document of how Bruce and the E Street Band could transform their songs on stage. Just over an hour into his marathon show at West Hollywood’s Roxy Theatre in the summer of 1978, Bruce Springsteen offers a confession: He doesn’t know how to fix a broken-down car. While this information might seem irrelevant to the night’s proceedings, it’s an important breakthrough in the action-packed group therapy session that is an E Street Band concert.

All track written by Bruce Springsteen, except 2 on Disc One, 4,9 on Disc Two. All track from a live FM broadcast performed at the Roxy Theatre, Los Angeles, 7th July 1978.

Bruce Springsteen to Release 'Chapter and Verse’ Companion Album with Autobiography Launch. Nearly two hours into the show, Springsteen steered clear of any song past 1974. He kept it old school, bringing out old friends Spanish Johnny for Incident on 57th Street and Rosalita – who came out earlier than the encores – before returning to his bar band roots with a cover of Pretty Flamingo, and some insight into his eating habits as the Boss pu. .You have challenged the E Street Band, he said, adding that the three-night stand was the most fun the group ever had at the Meadowlands. With that, he concluded with a song for the hometown Jersey Girls, as the sky ignited with fireworks and capped off another historic night.
