The Wild, the Innocent & the E Street Shuffle is the second studio album by American rock singer-songwriter Bruce Springsteen. It was recorded by Springsteen with the E Street Band at 914 Sound Studios in Blauvelt, New York; and released on November 11, 1973, by Columbia Records. The album includes the song "Rosalita (Come Out Tonight)", the band's most-used set-closing song for the first 10 years of its career.
These are the first, second, and fourth full-length albums by the Boss, and it would have been better if Born to Run was issued alongside the first two not just for chronological reasons but also for aesthetic ones, as the sonic jump from The Wild, the Innocent & the E Street Shuffle to Darkness on the Edge of Town is enormous. The Wild, The Innocent, & The E-Street Shuffle is The Boss at his finest. While it may not have the same scope and grandeur of the album following it, Springsteen's mega-hit Born To Run, it contains more than ample doses of the lively spirit, youthful enthusiasm, and endearing optimism that made Bruce Springsteen not only a household name, but the epitome of the American experience. The opening E Street Shuffle sets the tone, and gives way perfectly to 4th of July Asbury Park (Sandy), which eases along in its own way. Then the Boss gets jazzy on Kitty's Back, one of his most underrated songs. But I soon found out that Born In The USA and the mentioned Live 1975-85 was the last good records from him for my part. I've seen him live once, in 2008, and it was a thrill!! But Springsteen on record?
The album’s lyric-intensive songs were a significant departure from the music Springsteen had made before. Heard only within the context of Springsteen’s 1970s discography, it’s easy to view Greetings from Asbury Park, . as the work of a Dylan-influenced acoustic troubadour trying to find his feet in the rock world. Greetings wouldn’t even enter the Billboard charts until the summer of 1975, when – like its follow-up, The Wild, the Innocent and the E Street Shuffle – it finally began to sell amid the excitement surrounding Born to Run‘s impending release. Greetings would achieve gold certification from the RIAA in November 1978, eventually reaching the multi-platinum mark in April 1992.
The Wild, the Innocent, and the E Street Shuffle was the first time Springsteen scaled the heights of rock & roll greatness-but it wouldn't be the last. The sophomore release from Bruce Springsteen lives up to all the promise and brilliance foreshadowed on "Greetings From Asbury Park". A working class kid from Freehold, New Jersey presents a panorama of city life with some of the most stunningly original street poetry ever set to music. Born to Run" would cement Springsteen's status as one of rock music's greatest writers but he has never equalled the incredible poetry, narratives and arrangements found on this release.
Where Springsteen’s first album, Greetings From Asbury Park, NJ introduced us to an artist, it suffers from poor production and a lack of cohesion. It’s testament to the power of three songs that the album is lifted from a rather run of the mill attempt to something much stronger. From the Vietnam story of ‘Lost In The Flood’, the first epic in Springsteen’s work, through the bittersweet ‘For You’ to the pure rock and roll of ‘It’s Hard To Be A Saint In The City’, Greetings shows flashes of inspiration but never really shows any indication of what this aspiring songwriter may become. From the dissonant sound of the horns revving up at the start of ‘The E Street Shuffle’, it is obvious that we already have a much more confident sounding Springsteen. After years of playing and touring in early bands such as Steel Mill, that musicianship coalesces here to become something more.
Small Town Boy Greetings From Asburk Park, NJ/The Wild, The Innocent, And The E Street Shuffle/Darknes The Collection: Greetings from Asbury Park, . The Collection: Greetings from Asbury Park, . Greetings from Asbury Park, . The Wild, The Innocent and the E-Street Shuffle The Wild, the Innocent & the E Street Shuffle. Bruce Springsteen – New York City Serenade. This song is in my top 3 of his songs, and only recently did I figure out what it was about: The lady in the song is living a wild life thinking she'll attract guys with money.
His second album, The Wild, the Innocent, and the E Street Shuffle, added his stellar E Street Band. This is where Springsteen becomes an electric performer, with songs that invent new structures and court deep narratives. The E Street Shuffle and Kitty’s Back are among the funkiest songs he’s recorded, while 4th of July, Asbury Park (Sandy) and Wild Billy’s Circus Story are the warmest and most heartbreaking on the album. His first album, the excellent Greetings from Asbury Park, . presented a singer/songwriter with sharp lyrical skills and an emotional spectrum that could bring tears to the eyes of attentive listeners. His second album, The Wild, the Innocent, and the E Street Shuffle, added his stellar E Street Band.
