The Sisters of Mercy are an English rock band, formed in 1980 in Leeds. After achieving early underground fame there, the band had their commercial breakthrough in the mid-1980s and sustained it until the early 1990s, when they stopped releasing new recorded output in protest against their record company WEA. Currently, the band are a touring outfit only. The group has released three original studio albums, the last of which was released in 1990. Since 1985, and the departure of the other original members, the Sisters of Mercy has become uniquely Eldritch's artistic vehicle. Former members of the group established the bands Ghost Dance and The Mission. Early years (1980–1983). First and Last and Always era (1984–1985). The recording of First and Last and Always was worked on at two studios. The first being Strawberry Studios, where the bulk of the album was recorded. The Royal Albert Hall concert was the last nail in the coffin for this incarnation of The Sisters of Mercy, with Wayne Hussey leaving shortly after. Hussey would then end up taking two songs in development from the First and Last and Always sessions, Serpents Kiss, and Wake, along with bassist Craig Adams, and Andrew Eldritch’s penchant for silly hats, to form The Mission. The Mission would later release the music video for Stay With Me, with the undeniably gothic Cabinet of Dr. Caligari backdrop.

A few years later the CD version was released, but it didn't sound exactly the same as the original vinyl
