Released April 19th, 1971 through Elektra Records, the album peaked at the ninth spot on the Billboard 200. Morrison’s poetic ardor is undiminished and his vocal performance is unwavering in it’s enthusiasm, while the group as a whole returned to their original blues rock roots. The seven-minute title track was a car-cruising classic that celebrated both the glamour and seediness of Los Angeles; the other long cut, the brooding and jazzy Riders on the Storm.
