The Voyager Golden Records are two phonograph records that were included aboard both Voyager spacecraft launched in 1977. The records are a sort of time capsule.

Sounds of the Earth offers pure nature sounds, without added music or human induced noises. Exclusive discount for Prime members.

Is there really a difference to R9228135 ? Can't find anything online about the different weights of R9228135 - 180g and this one with 140g. But I guessed this is checked?

I have a lot of respect for this release. I don't want people to take this the wrong way, but I'm really surprised they didn't release this on one LP to keep down entrance cost. Of course it shouldn't shock anyone that flippers are out enmasse. Anyways, I'll prob' buy it at some point down the line, but I really was let down when I saw the price b/c I thought maybe $40-50 (and one LP).

The original golden records were mastered at 16 ⅔ RPM. That's how they managed to fit all of it onto one record. See here: https://www.discogs.com/Various-The-Sounds-Of-Earth/release/1852452This release was pressed onto 3 LPs at 33 1/3 RPM so you can actually play it on your turntable. Otherwise, you'd just be left with a pretty golden mat for your coffee table.I'm not saying this release isn't overpriced for what you actually get in the box. That depends on what you value. However, I think the choice to release it on 3 LPs was more for technical rather than commercial reasons.

I'm so glad I didn't throw out the box. Inside one of the borders of the box the pin was housed. Had I been less careful the pin would've been in the trash!So look out everyone!

Still In Mind

Back in 1991 I was digging through the record stores in L.A. And came across a double white label album that was laseretched with the designs that were on the "Voyager One" gold record, but this was black vinyl. I thought it was interesting butreturned it to its record slot. Ahhh non-buyers remorse... A friend later told me it might have been commissioned as a giftfor the engineers on the project. So, there are vinyl copies out there,and they are really plain. Two 12" in a plain double folder.its not until you open the folder do you notice the tracks and when the records are removed you notice the etching. I hope someone else was lucky enough to notice this record and purchased it. I have not seen another since.

I was just about to through away the box this album was delivered in before I discovered the Record Diagram Pin hidden in one of the folds of the box . If you are lucky to get one of these, be careful not to through away the pin.Other than that, this album is a fantastic document, packaging is beautiful and sound quality is superb.

there should be a pin, but its not in the box, its in one of the cardboard tubes that was in the packaging

The pin was in the packaging inside the shipping box but not inside the boxset. I fear some people did not realize the pin was mixed in with outer packaging and perhaps discarded it with the rest of the trash :(
