A calliope (see below for pronunciation) is a musical instrument that produces sound by sending a gas, originally steam or more recently compressed air, through large whistles-originally locomotive whistles. A calliope is typically very loud. Even some small calliopes are audible for miles. There is no way to vary tone or loudness. Musically, the only expression possible is the pitch, rhythm, and duration of the notes.

Talk about Margie Meinert - Crazy Calliope Music

White_Nigga
The Calliope is an instrument propelled by an engine that fills its metal pipes with steam rather than air. It's played by means of a keyboard, similar to that of an organ. It have taken the name from Calliope, the chief of the Greek Muses, who presided over heroic verse and eloquence. Calliope was a very popular during the early 20th century and was usually found on river boats and in circuses. The release sleeve says: "This is not an album of jazz or even rock'n'roll, it's just an album with a Calliope". But in fact the sound more looks like an old New Orleans jazz school. On the release Margie Meinert presents collection of street parades, cowboys, river boats, circuses & marching songs.
