Coles Corner is the fourth studio album from English pop/rock musician Richard Hawley, released on 5 September 2005 in the UK and on 6 September 2005 in the US. The title immortalises the legendary Sheffield landmark Coles Corner, a popular meeting place of old and new lovers. The album was nominated for the 2006 Mercury Music Prize for best album. Critics were almost unanimous in their praise for Coles Corner.

Richard Willis Hawley (born 17 January 1967) is an English singer-songwriter, guitarist, and producer. After his first band Treebound Story (formed while he was still at school) broke up, Hawley found success as a member of Britpop band Longpigs in the 1990s. After that group broke up in 2000, he later joined the band Pulp, led by his friend Jarvis Cocker, for a short time. As a solo musician, Hawley has released seven studio albums.

Calliope, also known by their chathandle uranianUmbra, is a cherub playing a session of Sburb. While they initially gave the impression that they were a troll, this was due to their obsession with their species, which extended to dressing as one. They appear to find comfort in pretending that they are a troll. Them concealing their true species also could have been related to their (possibly) not being allowed to name their species due to the "rules"

The steam calliope is also known as a steam organ or steam piano. The air-driven calliope is sometimes called a calliaphone, the name given to it by Norman Baker, but the "Calliaphone" name is registered by the Miner Company for instruments produced under the Tangley name. In the age of steam, the steam calliope was particularly used on riverboats and in circuses. Riverboats supplied steam from their propulsion boilers.
