Ulver : Nattens Madrigal,альбом, рецезия, трек-лист, mp3, тексты песен. Apart from all the excellent qualities this album has to offer, easily its most defining quality is the super raw production. The production on Nattens Madrigal: Aatte hymne til ulven i manden is tough as nails, so don't listen to it if you don't like audio hiss, lots of reverb, treble and feedback. But it's the albums insanely low production that gives the album its atmosphere, the atmosphere is akin to standing in a vast, empty forest in the middle of a cold winter night with wolves around you howling. Nattens Madrigal: Aatte hymne til ulven i manden will always remain as one.
Nattens Madrigal is am extremely raw black metal album. Ulver Garm - Vocals Lead Guitar/Acoustic Guitar - Haavard Aismal - Rhythm Guitar Skoll - Bass Aiwarikiar - Drums. Allegedly recorded in a forest, Ulver's third album is not the easiest listen. The production causes the vocals to be mixed lower than the guitars, the drums to be hard to pick out and the bass to be literally impossible to hear. With all of this in mind, Nattens Madrigal is very possibly the greatest black metal album ever recorded.
Nattens Madrigal is certainly a divisive album in the metal community – both revered and reviled – but, as per usual, I find that the truth is somewhere in between. This is neither a classic, nor a phoney attempt at cosying up to big boys of Norse black metal for some credibility. As Ulver had demonstrated twice before the release of Nattens Madrigal, they weren’t afraid of doing a little exploration into sounds that usually strayed away from the typical results of most of their countrymen’s and other black metal enthusiast’s contributions of the same time
Lost in the wilderness and enticed by the mythical creatures lurking in the twilight, the album's female protagonist clambers into the mountains, never to return. Accordingly, Bergtatt's five chapters see Ulver dragging Norwegian folk into the black-metal void. Ulver left the woods for good following Nattens Madrigal, but their fascination with the arcane has yet to fade in the 19 years since the Trilogie. Listening to January's sophisticated kraut-rock offensive ATGCLVLSSCAP, it's hard to believe that these three albums came from the same band.

Nattens madrigal returns Ulver completely to black metal. The biggest outstanding feature is the extreme rawness and low fidelity of the sound. Nevertheless, lo-fi quality and black metal can go hand in hand frequently, so it’s not anything too shocking. The full title of the album is Nattens madrigal – Aatte hymne til ulven i manden, which translates to Madrigal of the Night – Eight Hymns to the Wolf in Man. And the story is about a man who, under the influence of Satan, gives in to the beast within to become a werewolf. Each of the tracks is listed as Hymne I-VIII, with subtitles documenting the journey from Of Wolf and Fear all the way to Of Wolf and the Night.

By calling black metal on its shit, Ulver wound up making thoroughly no-bullshit black metal. It’s less a snake eating its tail and more a lizard bursting out of the belly of a rattler
