Natalie Merchant is the eponymous sixth studio album by American singer-songwriter Natalie Merchant, released on May 6, 2014 by Nonesuch Records. It is her first studio album consisting of all original material since Motherland (2001). In the United States, the album debuted at No. 20 on the Billboard 200 albums chart on its first week of release, selling around 12,000 copies in the United States in its first week.

MERCHANT lost his mother at age 11 and spent the majority of his teens in the Belmont orphanage where he learned to play the guitar and developed a love for music and singing. He led a troubled teenage life which took a turn for the better when he was spared jail time and placed on probation provided that he pursue music as a career. Despite success with hits such as "Um Ba Yo", "Pan In Danger", "Caribbean Connection" and "Rock It" MERCHANT continued to be haunted by demons from his childhood throughout his career and battled a drug habit. He was diagnosed with HIV in 1994 and died of AIDS in 1999.

Her debut solo album "Tigerly" was released on the Elektra label in 1995. Three years later, Merchant released her second solo album, "Ophelia," and in 2000 embarked on a folk tour in the United States, playing several shows with the alternative-country band Wilco.

Natalie Anne Merchant (born October 26, 1963) is an American alternative rock singer-songwriter. She joined the folk rock band 10,000 Maniacs in 1981, and was lead singer and primary lyricist for the group. She remained with the group for their first seven albums and left it to begin her solo career in 1993. She has since released seven studio albums. Natalie Merchant was born October 26, 1963, in Jamestown, New York, the third of four children of Anthony and Anne Merchant.
