The Second Approach Trio With Roswell Rudd ‎– The Light. Label: Solyd Records ‎– SLR 0390. Trombone – Roswell Rudd (tracks: 1 to 5, 7). Voice, Percussion – Tatiana Komova.

The ten-years-long history of the Second Approach, Russia’s most unusual improv collective, is full of astonishing interactions. The trio was born in late 1990s Moscow as an open-form project: pianist Andrey Razin, singer Tatyana Komova and bassist Igor Ivanushkin can perform (and do perform) as just a trio, but never seal themselves in trio format, preferring to enrich their music by interaction with other players. His works on this field included interesting recordings with African and Central Asian musicians.

Second Approach Trio.

On The Light, Rudd joins a Russian improvising trio, unusual in that the third member (along with pianist Andrei Razin and acoustic bassist Igor Ivanushkin) is st Tatyana Komova, whose tools seem to be a combination of drums and found objects. Razin is an impressive pianist whose modernist and avant tendencies are tempered by an innate lyricism and strong classical (Russian) technique. That lyricism brings out some of Rudd's most melodic playing on slower, in-tempo tracks like Razin's ". and Rudd's own "The Light Is With Me," the only.

A trio led by alto saxophonist Jim Hobbs and drunk on Ornette Coleman, for starters: They begin with a basic funk or blues groove, lay on a deceptively simple sax melody, and deconstruct. A. Mulatu Astatke & the Heliocentrics. Inspiration Information. Several tribes, actually: the title group with three trombones and Bob Stewart on tuba; one called Bonerama with five plus a sousaphone; the Gangbé Brass Band of Benin; and Sex Mob, which qualifies when Rudd weighs in; also, scattered unnamed groups with everyone from Eddie Bert to Ray Anderson to Josh Roseman. A New Orleans pro with beaucoup connections shows a light touch with trad jazz. New York–Addis–London: The Story of Ethio Jazz 1965–1975.

The Second Approach Trio is almost only stably Russian project that sticks to the idea of on attitude to the rendering of the original autho. The musical palette of the trio combines modern jazz, elements of ethno music, contemporary classical music, musical theatre and every gig of musician turns into the active and special performance. Discography of the trio includes 10 CDs. The credo of the project incarnates in synthesis of composition and improvisation, in multistylistics of new jazz stage. The leader of the trio is an experienced pianist and composer Andrei Razin. A unique singer Tatyana Komova and one of the key acoustic bass players in Russia Igor Ivanushkin complete the band.
