Stereo Trumpet by Leonel Kaplan, Birgit Ulher, released 07 January 2015 1. Otto sees Anna 2. I Did. Did I 3. Late Metal 4. Stereo Trumpet In an interview published in 2012, trumpeter Leonel Kaplan explained how, as a jazz player, it seemed clear to him early on that great players all developed their own sound and that trying to sound like your heroes worked against developing as a jazz artist. This seems to have been a major turning point for the Argentine-based musician, as it no doubt has been for many a musician working in improvised music.

Leonel Kaplan (born November 21, 1973) is an Argentine trumpet player active in free improvisation. He has been part of the international improvised music scene since the early 2000s, performing and recording throughout Latin America, Europe, and the . Leonel Kaplan plays the trumpet exclusively by focusing his approach on the rustling of the air column, the metaphysics of the tubes in a way (to paraphrase Amelie Nothomb): by playing with multiple pressure levels of the lips and the meticulous closure of the orifices with the pistons, he obtains a range of nuances, dynamics, noise, stamps rather leaded than copper, as they evoke piping. Birgit Uhler, replies by adding to his remarkable work on the trumpet, the use of a radio, a speaker and objects as generators of sounds

Leonel Kaplan (1973) Born in Buenos Aires, Argentina. Trumpeter and free improviser. Again thinking of Lucio. A raw metal tube with valves, scoured with air and spittle. Dogs responding. Why is there, to me, something about an acoustic performance like this, just as noisy and abstract as any other, that has some inherent edge, something extra, that makes me far more apt to be absorbed that a "similar" work using electronics, which might have to strive a bit harder to gain my full appreciation? Dunno, but I find it's often the case. I could listen to this quite happily for a long time, again could also imagine myself sitting int he room, appreciating the interaction with that space and beyond, getting up and walking around, standing outside, listening to it being muffled by walls, etc. Love the breath intakes while circular breathing. You feel virtually inside the horn much of the time. Ambulance on the way at the end. :-) Great stuff, love it.
