Seven Swans is a folk rock music album by Sufjan Stevens, released on March 16, 2004 on Sounds Familyre Records. It was recorded and produced by Daniel C. Smith, Sufjan's close friend. It includes songs about Christian spiritual themes, figures such as Abraham, and Christ's Transfiguration. The songs are primarily "lush acoustic compositions" with Stevens' banjo.

That said, skepticism still greets the release of Seven Swans, Sufjan Stevens' sparse and intimate fourth album, in which the Detroit-raised Brooklynite deals with the stories of his Christian faith most directly. Which is not to say that Michigan and its tales of personal grief and acceptance of one's suffering were any less Christian in ethos, just that Seven Swans is so topically concerned with Christianity that a few wrong steps could easily have been a disaster.

Seven Swans is the fourth official studio album by American recording artist Sufjan Stevens. Released in 2004, the album is comprised of lush acoustic compositions paired with lyrics infused with Bible tales and Christian imagery. Don’t let that dissuade you, though – it’s a truly brilliant album, religious or not.
