Concerning Marianne Schech: Marianne Schech, a young soprano of the Munich State Opera, has sung widely throughout Germany and in other parts of Europe. Her work in Wagnerian roles, particularly those of Elisabeth and Elsa, has been outstanding. Concerning Karl Paul: Karl Paul has also appeared throughout the European continent as well as in Germany, where he is a leading baritone of the Dresden State Opera. She was a member of the Bavarian State Opera from 1946 to 1970. She is known for leading roles in works by Richard Wagner and Richard Strauss, playing, for example, the Dyer's Wife in the . premiere of Die Frau ohne Schatten by Richard Strauss at the San Francisco Opera in 1959. She made several recordings, including in 1951 the role of Elisabeth in Wagner's Tannhäuser, conducted by Robert Heger, in 1960 the role of Chrysothemis in Elektra by Richard Strauss, conducted by Karl Böhm, and Senta in Wagner's Der fliegende Holländer, conducted by Franz Konwitschny. Grave in the cemetery of Bayrischzell.

Evening Star is the second studio album by British musicians Robert Fripp and Brian Eno. It was recorded from 1974 to 1975 and released in December 1975. This album's recording and the preceding seven show European tour by the duo marked Fripp's first output after disbanding King Crimson and his last before temporarily retiring from music (at the time thought to be permanently) to study at the International Academy for Continuous Education in Sherborne House.

Tradition, continuity and an impressive repertoire: these are the solid pillars supporting the Bayerische Staatsoper – one of the world’s leading opera houses. It can look back proudly on a cultural history of over 350 years. Thanks to a court tradition, opera found a home in Munich in 1653; since then its music-historical and sociopolitical development has continued in a way unparalleled anywhere else, worldwide.

Romantic OPera in 3 acts. Libretto: Friedrich Kind, Dialogues adapted by Gisela Schunk. The rest of the cast blends in beautifully along with Rafael Kubelik and the Bavarian Radio Chorus and Symphony Orchestra. The haunting scene at the "Wolfs' Glen" is of particular interest which is eerie and sends a chill up your spine. This is one of the best recordings I have heard of about this opera. I would recommend this version for your opera collection. 2 people found this helpful.

Tannhäuser has the dubious honour of two failed premieres. It was received with bewilderment on its first showing in Dresden on 19 October 1845 – largely because the singers were not up to the score’s singular demands. By now Wagner had refined his ideas of melos (a unique melody essential to each composition) and the result was a particularly challenging role for the titular hero. Recurring musical motifs, as in all Wagner's mature operas, still form the foundation of the melodic material, but quite unlike Tristan and the Ring the opera is structured largely in traditional numbers. The score is coloured with an archaic, modal twist, and for long stretches the vocal lines seem almost improvisatory. Ludwig II was the first to break the 30-year embargo in a private performance in Munich just a few years after the premiere.

Elisabeth, refusing to accept his social ostracism, demands he be offered the potential for salvation, and in his absence also begs the Virgin Mary to take her from this earth to intercede directly with God on his behalf should he fail. Her prayer is granted. Tannhäuser, once more seeking Venus, is held back from the Venusberg by mention of Elisabeth's name, and dies as news of the miracle in Rome reaches mourners at her funeral. There are two major versions: the first.
