The Bayreuth Festival (German: Bayreuther Festspiele) is a music festival held annually in Bayreuth, Germany, at which performances of operas by the 19th-century German composer Richard Wagner are presented. Wagner himself conceived and promoted the idea of a special festival to showcase his own works, in particular his monumental cycle Der Ring des Nibelungen and Parsifal.

Maria Mueller & The Bayreuth Festival Orchestra Conducted By Karl Elmendorff ‎– Tannhäuser: Act II. Label: Columbia ‎– 9131-M. Tannhäuser: Act II - Introduction; Dich Teure Halle. Composed By – Wagner. Matrix, Runout (Label side A): WAX 5700.

By Richard Wagner - Bayreuth Festival Orchestra, Karl Ermendorff, Maria Müller, Bayreuth Festival Chorus, Sigismund Pilinszky & Ivar Andresen. Tanhauser: Act II - "weh! weh mir unglucksel'gem!" By Richard Wagner - Orchestra del Festival Di Bayreuth, Karl Elmendorff, Sigismund Pilinszky, Ivar Andresen, Coro del Festival Di Bayreuth & Erna Berger. A complete recording (albeit with numerous cuts) of the Tannhäuser production was made, but with Karl Elmendorff replacing the Italian conductor. While preserving Andrésen's granitic Landgrave, the recording also captured in their respective primes Maria Müller as Elisabeth and the incomparable Herbert Janssen as Wolfram, perhaps his greatest role. Andrésen's participation in Toscanini's 1931 Parsifal was another eminent achievement.

The Bayreuth Festival has started to send the invoices for tickets to the next festival. The Bayreuth Festival. A theatre created for a single composer: the Bayreuth Festival Theatre. With an auditorium in which his music unfolds like in no other theatre in the world. With no grandeur, reduced to the essential: to experience his works as a celebration. Conductor: Valery Gergiev. Director: Tobias Kratzer.

Disk 2: Act II, tracks 1-18. Disk 3: Act III, tracks 1-12. DOCUMENTATION: No libretto. Short essay on the opera. Short summary of the plot by Act. Track listing that identifies the main character singing but does not provide timings. This recording captures the 1961 revival of "Tannhaeuser" at the Bayreuth Festival. Greindl, Adam and Fischer-Dieskau assumed the same roles they'd had in the 1954 version. Gerhard Stolze was promoted from Heinrich der Schreiber to Walther von der Vogelweide. It is abridged, uses the Paris Version and has a very uneven Tannhaeuser in Sigismund Pilinsky. But the other members of the cast are sterling and pretty much in the same class as the present recording.
