Mellon Collie and the Infinite Sadness is the third studio album by American alternative rock band The Smashing Pumpkins, released on October 23, 1995 in the United Kingdom and a day later in the United States on Virgin Records. Produced by frontman Billy Corgan with Flood and Alan Moulder, the 28-track album was released as a two-disc CD and triple LP. The album features a wide array of styles, as well as greater musical input from bassist D'arcy Wretzky and second guitarist James Iha.

Released October 24, 1995. Mellon Collie and the Infinite Sadness Tracklist. 1. Mellon Collie and the Infinite Sadness Lyrics. The third studio album by the Smashing Pumpkins was released on October of 1995 as a double-disc. Despite the high price tag in the pre-digital era, the album was soon certified as diamond, an accomplishment made by very few rock bands in the 1990’s. Nobody in the music industry saw it coming; except for Billy Corgan that is, who called this success as being vindicated. For some time, the album held the record for being the best-selling double CD of all time.

Although the artistic scope of the album is immense, the Smashing Pumpkins flourish in such an overblown setting. Corgan's songwriting has never been limited by conventional notions of what a rock band can do, even if it is clear that he draws inspiration from scores of '70s heavy metal and art rock bands

Produced by Smashing Pumpkins frontman Billy Corgan with Flood and Alan Moulder, the twenty-eight-track album was released as a two-disc CD and triple LP. Led by the single Bullet with Butterfly Wings, the record debuted at number one on the Billboard charts, the first and only such occurrence for the group

So Mellon Collie is a Smashing Pumpkins record that just so happens to be 28 songs in length, stunning in both its stylistic range and overall excellence. This is perhaps the only Smashing Pumpkins record where they acted like an actual band rather than Corgan and his resentful charges. Mellon Collie's remarkable breadth is the best indication of Corgan's ability to let loose.

The Smashing Pumpkins’ sophomore release, Siamese Dream, brokered the Chicago rockers’ commercial breakthrough, but also showed they’d moved well beyond the limitations imposed by grunge. However, while Siamese Dream was undeniably a pivotal record, it merely hinted at what the band would go on to achieve with their epic third album, Mellon Collie And The Infinite Sadness. Simply put, Mellon Collie And The Infinite Sadness was Billy Corgan and company’s magnum opus. Even with al. ock at its mid-90s height, Corgan understood that Mellon Collie And The Infinite Sadness needed widespread airplay to impact globally, so he ensured the album also included some of his band’s tastiest singles.

Mellon Collie And The Infinite Sadness (Remastered). Take the first song "Mellon Collie and the Infinite Sadness. A gorgeous piano song that perfectly opens the album. I find this song to be complimentary to the next song "Tonight, Tonight.

Talk about The Smashing Pumpkins - Mellon Collie And The Infinite Sadness

Ariseym
Is it really that hard to reissue this? Come on Billy! I wanna hear this amazing album on vinyl, with this tracklist, but not for $200-400!
Moronydit
I think I should buy the masters and repress this
Mariwyn
I have this particular copy and it sounds fantastic, cannot understand why people say it has quality issues.
Ustamya
There is no way this is worth $1000, even at number 347.
Ielonere
I agree... it's a nonsense! even if its a rare release
Yannara
I have this album and it is the #1 on the front cover. Don't know how much it is worth.
Dilmal
Doesn’t think it’s worth much, you might as well give it to me for free. I’ll pay your shipping fees. ????
Tygrarad
Yes I do. Why do you think I haven't ?
Kardana
No you don't.
Wafi
Numbered 4468 Booklet is mint!
Cobyno
just picked this up for under $200. i really dig the different tracklisting on it,
Modimeena
Looks like the re-issue is Dec 3 2012. I am still VERY interested in an original at some point. Anyone know how to spot the fakes?
Zargelynd
The chap below (Obylix) is correct... the fakes also have slightly thinner card for the sleeve...
Jediathain
off the top of my head what i remember when i was hunting mine down the biggest(not only) 2 tells are 1) coloured vinyl is fake 2) no white box on cover, all the legit pressings had the white box where the number goes (even though the 3rd and final run of the original press did not have numbers, the box was still there)
Lli
Official reisseue is scheduled for 2012
Lynnak
The original, first pressing, was of 5000 copies. It was meant to be numbered but the box was left unstamped. About 6 months later, they re-pressed it (I think another 5000?) and these WERE numbered. But yeah, the un-numbered vinyl is the first and original pressing.
olgasmile
the ones without the white box are bootlegs. the other things you said were already said in this thread. :)
Adrielmeena
Actually it is the opposite. The first pressings were numbered to 5000.The second pressing was later released with stamped numbers starting with 5001 on up.With the third pressing, the box was left blank. Subsequent releases color brushed over the box completely.
Mautaxe
Not true.First pressing of 5000 were numbered in february 1996, then in april same year they pressed 20,000 still numbered. In 1998 the album was repressed leaving the white box empty (un-numbered).However numbered and un-numbered are the only official pressings.... fuck those coulored vinyls bootlegs.
Helo
i believe that is correct.
Fecage
Do the both official pressings have a box for numbering? A copy without a white little box on the corner of front cover must then definitely be a unofficial bootleg, right?
Conjukus
this is incorrect. anything numbered less than 5000 is the first press, 15000 is the second press and unnumbered is the third press.
Aria
Given the typical asking price for this album is more than four times it's average selling price (Mint) and the flood of counterfeit versions all clamouring to get in on the (perceived) action, this release is crying out for a decent official repress...Mobile Fidelity Sound Labs are you listening!!!
Daigami
Why the disappointment? You still have an original copy of a great album! It's an LP, not a share portfolio.
Whitestone
I agree...
Whitecaster
This is the only thing that bothers me about the Vinyl scene... RECORDS ARE MADE TO BE LISTENED AND ENJOYED!, NOT TO BE TREATED LIKE F!ING TROPHIES, BANK NOTES OR STOCKS.
Manona
as an owner of an original very low-numbered copy, i'm disappointed it's being reprinted. the value of the original will be going way down.
EROROHALO
rumor is that one is coming next year.... unfortunately not MFSL but gish and siamese dream had their represses already
Domarivip
No idea, no word have been said about it. But I think it's safe to say that it'll be colored, at least a limited run, since it's a anniversary repress and stuff.
Shaktizragore
do you know if the repress' are going to be colored vynil or just black?
